Buttermilk Roast Chicken

buttermilk roast chicken:

buttermilk roasted chicken

Without a doubt, the very best part of fried chicken is the battered, seasoned, gold-tinged and impossibly crisp exterior. But, as far as I’m concerned, the tender chicken within is no distant second. The best fried chicken recipes have you soak the uncooked chicken in a salty/sweet brine of buttermilk and seasonings for at least day, resulting in meat that’s decadent long before it hits the fryer. Wouldn’t it be great if the insides could garner the same gushing their pretty skins do?

drizzled lightly with olive oil

This is what I was thinking of when I stumbled on an old Nigella recipe for buttermilk roasted chicken. Of course, that was four weeks ago and for three of them, I sat at a table piled with eraser dust and red pencil overlooking the avenue below, editing away dreaming mostly of the buttermilk chicken I would finally make when I was done. The recipe turned out to be a good place to start, but I wanted more — a longer soak, more salt, less oil, more garlic and, for some reason, I felt the recipe was itching for paprika. So, I went another round with it last night — finishing it with a drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle of more paprika and flaked sea salt before roasting it — and this, at last, was the buttermilk chicken I had dreamed about.

My Baby Is Going to Make More Money Than Me!

Former "Bachelor" winner Shayne Lamas believes in starting 'em off young -- because TMZ has learned she's close to signing her 11-week-old daughter to an endorsement deal.

Sources close to Lamas tell TMZ she is set to ink a six-figure deal for little Press Dahl Lamas-Richie with a company called Sugar Factory ... to be the face of their baby clothing line.

We're told little Press is even in line for her own signature series "couture pop" ... like Britney Spears has.

Your move, Blue Ivy.

Blending In

Blending In:

To many people fashion is art and, in this case, it truly is. Twenty-Seven Names debuted their latest line of Autumn/Winter fashion at the New Zealand Fashion Week. Instead of the traditional catwalk, designers Rachel Easting and Anjali Stewart used a photo show to exhibit their clothes. Gorgeous model Ngahuia Williams donned outfits which seamlessly blended in with the backgrounds. What a truly unique fashion show!

Shop Tours: Ashley Paige's New Studio Inspired by Warhol's Factory

Shop Tours: Ashley Paige's New Studio Inspired by Warhol's Factory:

When LA swimwear designer Ashley Paige landed the coveted corner space on Sunset that was previously occupied by Vintage Gear Hollywood, she knew that she had big shoes to fill. That's why instead of building out a run-of-the-mill retail boutique, she decided to maximize her prime real estate and create a lively concept studio akin to The Factory that Andy Warhol made famous in the '60s.

Similar to the pop culture icon, Paige has formed a creative playground for her entourage of artists, designers, photographers, and, of course, celebrity fans like DJ/model, Caroline D'Amore. She and her crafty friends use the back of the studio to experiment on new designs, conduct photo shoots, collaborate on art projects, brainstorm, and hang. The front is dedicated to the store's retail offerings, where you can shop Paige's swimwear collections as well as items from various independent labels.

Although the designer's new shop is still in its soft launch phase, she invites you all to stop in, say hi, and peruse the for-sale merchandise. Click through the slideshow to see the current set-up, and stay tuned for future party invites, because Paige revealed to us that there are tons of art shows, fashion fetes, and Warholian shindigs in store.

Back to the Future - Part 2

Back to the Future - Part 2:
Lea B 1980 & 2011 Paris

Irina Werning is back with a Part Two of her incredibly awesome series Back to the Future. The Buenos Aires-born photographer impressively captures the same tone and essence of old photos in her recreations. She even included other countries this time and it will continue to do so. Her next installment will feature Istanbul, Baghdad, Beirut, Iceland and Cairo.

The series stands as an excellent indicator of how we age and conjures up some funny memories that are associated with it. Some of these poses are cute as a child but look comical and even strange when adults try and reenact them.

Australian label Nobody Denim has quickly become the jeanswear of choice for Hollywood's leading ladies. First championed by Aussie model Miranda Kerr, the cult brand's array of washes, colors and fits have recently popped up on the likes of Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Alba and Rachel Bilson.

The brand's celebrity appeal may have something to do with their rather theatrical mission statement, as noted on their site: "Nobody creative inspiration comes from this world where rules are deconstructed and reconstructed. Truth is a façade upon which we all rely to function. The layers of the cosmic onion are peeled away to the darkest chasm, until we get to a point where even the meaning and existence of self identity is questioned, and then everything is reconstructed to your own liking in an artistic and creative way." Whew.

Until Nobody Denim makes it's way into LA boutiques, shop it online here.
